On 22nd July 2005, Brazilian electrician Jean Charles de Menezes was killed by British police at Stockwell Underground station in London. Upstart Theatre seek to tell his story. This blog is our production diary; visit us here to find out what we’ve been doing and to comment on our work and on the story of Jean Charles de Menezes and London in 2005.
The most recent showing of the project was on 22nd July 2008, at the Cavendish Arms pub in Stockwell. More about the 22.8.08 showing.
We are currently looking for a venue to take the project on on a larger scale in the New Year. If you represent a venue which may be interested, please email Tom Mansfield, Joint Artistic Director of Upstart Theatre.
This project would have been impossible without the support of Ben Evans of the Oval House Theatre, and of the many actors, writers, technicians and other creatives who have given up their time to join us in our work. We’d like to thank them all: Sarah Beck, Rendah Beshoori, Matthew Duggan, Natalie Duvall, Linda Emmanuel, Susanna Fiore, Phil Hewitt, Will Jasper, Dawn King, Steven Lally, Alice-Jane Lingwood, Rosie Mason, Daniela Pisani, Jessica Ransom, Pedro de Senna, Sanjay Shelat and Shane Zaza.
